All About The Empowering Midwife

A Bit About Me

Welcome

Nice to meet you! My name is Elizabeth, and I'm so glad you're here.

I HATE talking about myself; that's partly why I enjoy working as a midwife - You're supposed to be the star of the show, not me!

I am a qualified midwife, hypnobirthing instructor and as of May, will be teaching pre and postnatal yoga too, so keep an eye out for class bookings.

I have worked (and still do) for the last 9 years, as an NHS midwife on "the shop floor" so to speak. I currently work regularly on the labour, antenatal and postnatal wards, as well as teaching parent education classes. I have worked in the community and attended many community births in women's homes as well as birth centres and I still regularly spend a lot of time helping new mums with feeding their babies.

Outside of work, I am definitely an introvert, just undercover as a chatterbox. I am mother to one human toddler, who is wild but hilarious, and one fur baby (she's 7 but she'll always be my baby). I love all things midwifery and am a total work nerd! Because I can't handle not knowing the answers when asked a question, I spend a lot of work breaks reading research articles or medical journals. When I'm not at work you'll often find me out on a dog walk/jog, so if you do see me, be sure to say hello!

I am passionate about informed consent, advocating for women's choices, and helping them along the way to find their voice so they can be their own, and their child's advocate too. Childbirth is such a transformative time and I believe that setting women up well to trust themselves for this massive life event, helps to shape the rest of their and their new baby's lives.

I've started The Empowering Midwife because I want to be able to help more women than I can currently reach as an NHS midwife. The end goal is that women everywhere will be able to trust themselves throughout their pregnancy and birth and ultimately look back at this time with pride.

Whether it's birth planning or hypnobirthing, or something entirely different, get in touch now and I will do all that I can to help to give you the tools to have the best birth day ever!

‘Speak tenderly; let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Don’t only give your care, but give your heart as well.’
